What We Do in the Shadows is a mockumentary comedy horror about a group of vampires that live in New Zealand. The movie follows a documentary crew that’s been granted access to a secret underground world of creatures of the night. This film is written and directed by Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement. If you haven’t heard of this film, I wouldn’t be surprised, but check out their website.
The good; all the best parts are NOT in the trailer and this comedy delivers what it promises, that’s rare on both accounts with comedies these days. Everyone in the cast gives great performances.
I’m also impressed by the story that they told, usually things tend to get bogged down with gags and bits, but here we have something that works as a narrative and at the same time being hilarious.
The bad; it’s only in limited release, not sure who everyone else will be able to see this wonderful gem of a movie.
Overall, I can’t say enough about What We Do in the Shadows. And I won’t, cause to go further into detail would be to rob you of a supremely delicious experience.
I laughed from the moment go, what with the opening production logo being that of “The New Zealand Documentary Board.” You’ll laugh and be thrilled at this semi-reunion of Flight of the Conchords. By far the best movie that you won’t see this year. Do yourself a favor and track this movie down and watch it in the theatre (if you can). You’re welcome…
