r.i.p. gerard parkes

Gerard Parkes passed away this week on October 19, 2014, he died of natural causes on Sunday. Many of my peers knew him as Doc from Fraggle Rock.
And that’s where I best remember him, he would begin and close an episode of Fraggle Rock, and I didn’t watch Fraggle Rock that often because it was only available on HBO, so the time spent with Parkes was rare and very sought after.

Parkes was born in Dublin, he then relocated to Canada after World War II where he started in Radio. After that he started acting in television. Some of us may also know him from The Boondock Saints, where he played a bar owner also named Doc.

I will always remember him as the American inventor Doc, the only human character is world filled with fabricated people.
Parkes died in his Toronto retirement home, four days after his 90th birthday, but he’ll always be a part of my childhood.
