The Man Behind The Poster is about Drew Struzan. Drew is an artist whose work you probably know. Struzan has worked with Hollywood’s greatest; Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Guillermo del Toro, Frank Darabont to name a couple.
You can learn more about it here. Or just look up some of the stuff he’s done, here’s a sample;
The good; the documentary does a good job in giving us the bio to Struzan’s life and how he got in to the poster biz. It’s literally a starving artists’ story. Sure this documentary has an agenda, it’s to shine the best light on Struzan, but I’m a fan of his work so I’m right there with biased quality.
I really enjoyed hearing about his past and how he was able to get work, then eventually become this in demand artist. I don’t want to go any further, cause it’ll just be me gushing over this film and recounting events.
The bad; I can’t believe it took him this long to meet Harrison Ford?! What the heck? He’s painted Ford’s face so many times and yet he’s never met him till the making of this documentary?
I wanted more stories about how and why he chose to paint/create what he did for any particular poster.
Overall, if you’re a movie goer/buff, you’ll want to see this documentary. You can catch it on Netflix now!
