Black Dynamite came out in 2009, it’s directed by Scott Sanders written by Scott Sanders, Michael Jai White and Byron Minn. It stars; Michael Jai White, Salli Richardson, Arsenio Hall, Kevin Chapman and Tommy Davidson.
The short of it, is that it’s a parody movie of the blaxploitation genre of the 1970s. That’s it really.
Oh you want more? It’s about Black Dynamite, yes that is his name, who’s former CIA, and is looking to avenge his brother’s death, all the while, cleaning up the streets of a new drug that’s circulating in his neighborhood.
The good; from start to finish, hilarity wrapped in comic gold, then lightly glazed with a sugar coating. This is how parody movies should be. Not like the other movies released around this time (Meet the Spartans, Date Movie, Epic Movie…) that seem to be just one skit after another. Black Dynamite has a story, albeit a far fetched one, but the spirit is there, the jokes are solid and it’s DYNO-mite!
The bad: there’s no sequel, and no one saw this movie… but we did get an animated TV Show.
Overall, you will get offended, you will laugh and you’ll be entertained. So know what you’re getting in to, such a funny movie, find it if you can.
It was shot on Super 16 film to give it that quality, and what’s more… they shot it in only 20 days!
